Peculiar

A gospel choir born in the heart of Kumasi, Ghana — chosen, royal, and called to carry a sound that shifts atmospheres and changes lives.

How It Began

Born From a
Burning
Calling

Peculiar People did not begin in a boardroom or a strategy session. It began in the heart of Nsanku Pekay — a keyboardist, producer, and servant of God who believed that music was more than sound. It was a weapon, a vessel, a voice.

From the streets and sanctuaries of Kumasi, Ghana’s Garden City, he gathered voices — young people passionate about worship, tired of ordinary, and ready to carry something extraordinary. They rehearsed in small rooms. They trusted a big God. And Peculiar People was born.

What started as a local gathering became a ministry. What started as rehearsals became revivals. And what started in Kumasi is now reaching Accra and beyond — one concert, one soul, one song at a time.

What We Stand For

Mission & Vision

M
🎓

Mission

To use music as a vehicle of evangelism, healing, and community transformation. We go beyond performance — our songs carry a mandate to reach the broken, uplift the weary, and bring the lost into encounter with the living God. Every stage is an altar. Every concert is a crusade.

V
🌟

Vision

To raise a peculiar generation of worshippers — musicians, creatives, and ministers — who understand that music is not a career but a calling. We envision a Ghana and an Africa where gospel music leads cultural conversations, where choirs fill arenas, and where the sound of heaven is louder than the noise of the world.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

1 PeterChapter 2, Verse 9 • KJV

Our DNA

Core
Values

These are not aspirations written on a wall. These are the convictions that govern how we rehearse, how we perform, how we treat one another, and how we show up for our communities.

01
🎶

Music is Ministry, Not Performance

We do not sing to be seen. We sing to be vessels. Every note we release is intentional — crafted in prayer, delivered in purpose, and received as a prophetic act. When we stand on stage, we stand on holy ground.

02

Excellence Honours God

God is not glorified by mediocrity. We pursue the highest standard in our musicianship, our arrangements, our sound, and our character. Rehearsals are serious. Worship is serious. We bring our best because He deserves nothing less.

03
🤝

Community Over Competition

We celebrate one another. There is no rivalry inside these walls — only family. We lift each other’s voices, cover each other’s weaknesses, and build something together that none of us could build alone.

04
🏋

Youth at the Centre

Young people are not the future of the church — they are the church, right now. We invest in, celebrate, and challenge youth to discover their gifts and step boldly into their calling without waiting for permission.

05
🌏

Rooted in Ghana, Sent to the World

We are proudly Ghanaian. Our Ashanti heritage, our language, our rhythms — these are gifts we carry into worship. But our assignment is not local. We carry a sound the world needs, and we intend to deliver it everywhere God opens a door.

The Visionary Behind The Sound

Founder & Director

Nsanku
Pekay

Chief Minstrel • Ghana’s Finest Keyboardist

Nsanku Pekay is a gifted keyboardist, studio engineer, music producer, and entrepreneur rooted in Kumasi, Ghana. He has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and anointed musicians in the Ghanaian gospel scene — a man who moves as naturally in the studio as he does on stage.

His musical journey is marked by collaboration, faith, and consistency. He has shared platforms with respected Ghanaian gospel voices including Kofi Owusu Peprah, Efe Grace, and MOGmusic, earning recognition for a style that fuses jazz complexity with gospel fire.

In founding Peculiar People, Nsanku created not just a choir but a movement — a space where young Ghanaians could discover the power of worship-as-calling. His philosophy is simple: music is a ministry first and a skill second. That conviction shapes everything Peculiar People does.

The Sound Before the Name

Nsanku Pekay releases his debut album Never Give Up — a 10-track jazz fusion gospel project that announces his arrival as a serious musical voice in Ghana. Songs like “Words Have Power” and “In Christ Alone” establish his signature style: technically rich, spiritually deep.

Peculiar People is Founded in Kumasi

Out of a vision to build more than a music group, Nsanku Pekay gathers a core group of passionate worshippers in Kumasi. Peculiar People officially begins — rehearsals in small rooms, big faith, and a clear sense of divine mandate. The name comes directly from 1 Peter 2:9.

Now

Why This Matters

Why We Sing

🎓

Music Opens Closed Doors

A song can reach a heart that a sermon cannot. Music disarms, draws in, and delivers truth in a way nothing else can.

Ghana Needs a New Sound

The gospel music landscape in Ghana is shifting. We intend to be at the forefront — relevant, excellent, and rooted in the Word.

🌟

Worship is Warfare

When we lift our voices in praise, spiritual realities shift. We sing not just to express feeling — we sing to accomplish something.

🏋

Youth Deserve a Platform

Too many gifted young Ghanaians have no place to grow. Peculiar People is that place — a platform, a training ground, a home.

🤝

Community Heals Through Song

Music binds communities together. From hospitals to schools, our presence with a song has brought healing that words alone could not.

🌏

Ghana to the Nations

Kumasi gave us roots. Ghana gave us identity. But the mandate is the world — and we are walking boldly in that direction.
